When Frank first moved into our community after living alone, he struggled to adjust. He rarely left his room, often sharing that he didn’t feel well and didn’t believe he belonged. It was clear he was experiencing a sense of disconnection and uncertainty in his new environment. Through ongoing conversations and consistent support, we were able to better understand Frank’s needs. He eventually shared that he felt more comfortable coming out of his room when he knew he was needed or could contribute in a meaningful way. With this insight, we began intentionally involving Frank in daily activities, asking for his advice on small projects like rearranging spaces or fixing things around the community. This approach helped him feel valued and included. Most recently, Frank has proudly taken on the role of our “official paper shredder.” As he puts it, it’s a new job for him in retirement. Having this responsibility has given Frank a renewed sense of purpose, and he now approaches each day with enthusiasm, completing his tasks happily and with pride. Yeehaw! It was Western Day here at Bickford of Upper Arlington Assisted Living and Memory Care! Our residents had a rootin' tootin' good time enjoying horse races, delicious brownies, and plenty of laughter with friends. We were also grateful to spend time with Ronnie and Linley from Hospice360, whose company helped make the day even more special. Fun activities, sweet treats, and wonderful friendships made for a fantastic Western Day celebration here at Bickford!

We kicked off our morning by baking Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownies here at Bickford of Upper Arlington Assisted Living and Memory Care. The wonderful aroma filled the house, and everyone enjoyed helping with this sweet treat. Baking together is a great way to create smiles, encourage engagement, and make lasting memories.

What teamwork! We completed this puzzle in just one afternoon. Karen put the finishing touches on it for all of us here at Bickford of Upper Arlington Assisted Living and Memory Care. We always enjoy spending time together working on puzzles, sharing conversation, and celebrating our accomplishments.
