Our bodies need more water in the heat, and dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and discomfort—especially for older adults who may not always feel thirsty. Make it a habit to drink water throughout the day, not just when you’re thirsty. Keep a water bottle nearby, enjoy hydrating foods like fruit, and add a splash of flavor with lemon or cucumber. A little extra water each day can help you feel your best all season long!

Mrs. W’s Higher Path began in mid-January when she took a hard fall that many feared would mark the start of a long decline. In senior living, such events often lead to reduced functioning and lost independence, but Mrs. W had other plans. After a right hip repair and several weeks in skilled nursing, her family wondered if she would ever return to Bickford of Chesterfield. Yet every time someone questioned her resilience, she met them with a spark in her eye and her signature line: “Strong like bull.” Back at Bickford, the team trained in dementia care and restorative communication supported her healing with patience, clear cues, and encouragement. Gradually, she regained her strength. Before retirement, Mrs. W had been an avid gardener, winning community flowerbed contests, and nurturing plants with a blend of structure and care. That same nurturing energy now shaped her recovery. Today, she is back where she belongs, walking the halls, sharing jokes, and proving that resilience does not fade with age. It grows, just like the strongest roots in rich soil. The visit also created a wonderful sense of togetherness, bringing residents and staff closer as everyone joined in the celebration. The visit brought smiles, laughter, and a wonderful sense of holiday cheer to everyone. It was a heartwarming experience that brought out joy and a few sweet memories of Easters past. Bright eggs were hidden throughout the space, just waiting to be discovered, and the joy on everyone’s faces made the day truly special. Sweet Easter Cupcakes Our homemade Easter cupcakes brought a little extra joy to the celebration! Fluffy vanilla and chocolate cupcakes were topped with pastel frosting, sprinkles, and festive candies, making each one as cute as it was delicious. Sometimes the sweetest moments come from the simplest traditions—especially when shared.

One thing to be reminded of today: a dementia diagnosis doesn’t erase a lifetime of kindness, habits, and appreciation. Inside Bickford of Chesterfield’s Montessori Lifestyle Memory Support community, after finishing her breakfast, she quietly left a tip on the table—just like she’s probably done countless times before. These are some of the best moments in Mary B’s. Of course, her money will be returned, but the gesture meant so much more than the dollars itself. For a moment, there was this beautiful sense of normalcy—of who she has always been still shining through. Their lively music and heartfelt songs filled Bickford with energy and joy, creating an afternoon of smiles, tapping toes, and singing along. Music has a unique way of lifting spirits and bringing people together, and The Lovebirds certainly delivered. Residents enjoyed reminiscing, connecting over favorite tunes, and soaking in the warm, vibrant atmosphere.
