Vibrant Community
& Activities
Many seniors equate greater independence with staying put at home, when in fact the opposite can be true.
The reality is that a family home can slowly turn into an oppressive environment for some seniors.
Seniors at home may risk:
- Feeling lonely and isolated
- Higher chance of falling or accidents
- Finding it hard to handle household tasks and personal needs
- Not eating well or preparing meals properly
- Having trouble keeping track of medications
- Feeling limited by struggles with transportation
- Missing out on social activities and friends
- Slower response to emergencies or health problems
- Declines in overall wellbeing and happiness
Getting support for the basics can prolong your loved one’s autonomy
In assisted living, seniors get help with daily tasks like meals and medication, easy access to healthcare professionals, and a vibrant community. It’s an environment that allows them to focus on what truly matters most — living the best life possible.

Common Questions about Assisted Living
Assisted living is a type of housing for older adults who need some assistance with daily tasks but can still maintain a level of independence. Residents live in their own apartments or suites but have access to assistance, social activities, and on-site amenities. They may receive help with tasks like taking medications, bathing, dressing, housekeeping, grooming, meals, transportation, and laundry services.
A nursing home or SNF provides a higher level of care than an assisted living facility. It’s a more medical environment, like a hospital. Nursing homes tend to be more expensive than assisted living due to the higher level of care and medical services provided. That said, many people are surprised by the amount of care available in assisted living’s home-like setting. At Bickford, we pride ourselves on being able to care for seniors who have a high level of need. Our nursing assessment will help determine if assisted living is the best environment for your loved one.
Housekeeping difficulties, medication issues, increased isolation, hygiene troubles, and cognitive decline are all signs it may be time for assisted living. Click here to read more about what to watch for.
Home care involves receiving assistance and support in one’s own family home. Caregivers visit to provide help with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and medication management. It can be a great choice for some circumstances, but often the physical home setting can get hard for a senior to manage. Home care also doesn’t provide the community social interaction and round-the-clock availability that assisted living offers. And if your loved one needs a lot of it, it may cost more than assisted living for the same level of attention. Learn more about Bickford Home Care >>

Assisted Living may be more affordable than you think
You may be surprised to learn that many older adults spend more money living alone and paying separately for mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, home care and transportation than they would living at Bickford.
