Love That Shows Up Every Day
When **Dorothy** first moved into memory care, there were a lot of emotions in the room—uncertainty, sadness, and quiet strength. Transitions like this are never easy, especially when they involve saying goodbye to the life you once shared and learning how to live differently together.
What stands out most is not the diagnosis.
It’s the devotion.
Every single day, Dorothy’s husband walks through our doors to see her.
Some days they talk. Some days they sit side by side in comfortable silence. Other days, Dorothy may not recognize him right away—but he always recognizes her. He greets her with the same gentleness, the same patience, the same love he’s shown throughout their life together.
He sits with her during meals, holds her hand during activities, and reassures her when the world feels confusing. When memory fades, his presence becomes the memory—steady, familiar, and safe.
To the outside world, it might look like a simple visit. But to us, it’s a powerful reminder of what commitment truly means. Love doesn’t disappear when things get hard. It adapts. It shows up. It stays.
In memory care, we often say we care for the whole person—but we also care for the people who love them. Watching Dorothy and her husband together reminds us why we do this work. Behind every resident is a story, a family, and a lifetime of shared moments that continue to matter.
Love like this doesn’t need words.
It lives in everyday actions.
And sometimes, it walks through our doors faithfully, day after day.

Lee, came up with the wonderful idea to make teddy bears for the local fire department to give to children affected by fires. She was full of joy as she set up her sewing machine in the bistro and prepared to begin this heartfelt project. This meaningful moment beautifully reflects the Montessori concept of honoring independence, choice, and purposeful engagement. By following her own idea and using her talents to help others, Lee is showing that every person has gifts to share and a valuable role in the community. We are so proud of Lee for turning compassion into action—one teddy bear at a time.

Dorothy and Sheila, two of our Mary B's residents, spent time side by side yesterday, enjoying “conversation” in their own special way and simply being together. Even when words are hard to understand, the joy of connection shines through in smiles, presence, and companionship. By using the Montessori approach, we create a calm, comforting environment where each resident feels safe, relaxed, and free to be themselves. Moments like these remind us that communication is so much more than words—it is found in laughter, closeness, and shared peace.

It’s the last day of March—and we’ve been having so much fun around here, we almost forgot to post! So let’s take a moment to share a few highlights from the month. Our Shamrock Social was a big hit. Residents came together to create cheerful decorations, make some delicious treats, and fully embrace the spirit of the season. It was one of those days filled with laughter, teamwork, and just the right amount of green (OK, maybe too much green!). A special thank you to Meghan for bringing the Irish cheer as our very own leprechaun—she made the celebration even more memorable!

What is the best way to end an already fabulous week here at Bickford of Bexley Assisted Living and Memory Care? Well, we just went to check out the local talent! And boy, did we find the best talent show in town at Maryland Elementary School! And who was one of the MC's but our very own Meghan... the daughter of one of our very special residents! It was so great to see her in her element, and it was so evident why she became a first grade teacher. She just shines! Thank you Meghan for inviting us!!

Stay tuned and be prepared to be amazed! Our talented residents at Bickford of Bexley Assisted Living and Memory Care decided to begin making a village out of clay in Art Class! Beginning with the ideas of different buildings on paper, then making the frames out of cardboard, be sure to watch for more as the project slowly comes together! We are never too old to get those imagination juices flowing!
