Bickford of Chesterfield

Your loved one deserves to live the best life possible

Watch your loved one thrive in an environment that feels like home

Navigating the aging journey is difficult.

We understand what’s at stake here: it’s not just someone, it’s your loved one.

Meanwhile, it’s on you to make the difficult decisions.

There's a Higher Path for our seniors

Senior care today is reactive, expensive, and siloed. It’s a sick-care system, not a health-care system (designed to keep seniors healthy). Most of us have accepted this status quo because it feels too big and complex to change. Not us. We’re taking the road less traveled and championing a higher standard of senior care.

Springtime in Virginia brings beautiful blooms—and a surge in pollen. To help manage pollen exposure: Stay indoors during peak times, especially mornings and windy days Keep windows closed and use air conditioning when possible Change clothes after spending time outside Wash hands and face frequently With a few simple precautions, you can still enjoy the beauty of spring in Virginia while minimizing the effects of pollen.

Opening Day is almost here—and you can feel the excitement in the air. There’s something special about the start of baseball season. It’s more than just the first game; it’s a fresh beginning, a chance to celebrate tradition, and an opportunity to come together. For many of our residents, baseball holds a lifetime of memories—listening to games on the radio, cheering from the stands, or watching with family on a warm afternoon. Opening Day brings those moments rushing back, sparking conversations and smiles that connect generations. As we look ahead to the season, we’re excited to cheer, reminisce, and make new memories together. Here’s to Opening Day—the start of something special once again. ⚾

We were delighted to welcome the Encore Dancers, who brought the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day to life with vibrant performances, festive music, and plenty of smiles. Their energy filled the room and created a joyful atmosphere that everyone could feel. Moments like these remind us just how powerful music can be in assisted living. Music has a unique way of connecting people, sparking memories, and lifting spirits. Whether it’s a familiar tune that brings back cherished moments or a lively performance that gets toes tapping, music plays an essential role in enhancing emotional well-being and creating meaningful experiences for our residents. Thank you to the Encore Dancers for sharing your talent and helping us celebrate in such a memorable way!

As we age, maintaining good health becomes increasingly important—and one of the most effective ways to support overall well-being is through daily exercise. While it may seem challenging or even unnecessary to some older adults, regular physical activity plays a vital role in preserving independence, enhancing quality of life, and preventing a wide range of health issues. 1. Promotes Physical Health and Mobility Daily exercise helps seniors maintain strength, flexibility, and balance. Activities such as walking, stretching, or light resistance training can improve muscle tone and joint function, reducing the risk of falls and injuries. Staying active also supports better posture and coordination, making everyday tasks easier and safer.

Monday mornings are better in the sunshine. A few of our assisted living residents enjoyed a peaceful pre-lunch sit in the courtyard, soaking up fresh air and good company. It’s in these simple moments that organic connections grow, strengthening the sense of community we cherish every day. #bickfordseniorliving #higherpath #happierhealthierlonger #sunshine

With the first day of spring arriving tomorrow, we’re looking forward to brighter days, fresh air, and the renewal this season brings. Spring also tends to bring a bit more pollen, which can mean extra sniffles and discomfort for some of our residents. Please know that our attentive nursing team is ready and prepared to support your loved ones with anything they may need as the seasons shift. This time of year is also a wonderful opportunity to take a closer look at current medications. Many families find it helpful to review what their loved one is taking and consider whether any adjustments or reductions may be possible. To support this, we are pleased to share that we have partnered with Genesight, a service that maps medications to an individual’s genetic profile. This gives valuable insight into how medications are metabolized and can help us simplify medication lists and address concerns about polypharmacy. If you would like to learn more about this service or feel it may be helpful for your loved one, please reach out to Nurse Grace. I am always here to help. Wishing everyone a healthy and hopeful start to spring.

For years, Stanley the Happy Hour Dog and his owner Sydney have been a beloved part of life here at Bickford. Week after week, they bring smiles, laughter, and a whole lot of love to our community. Stanley has a special way of connecting with everyone he meets. Whether he is making his rounds for pets or patiently “working” for his favorite treat—cheese—he reminds us all how meaningful simple moments can be. If you haven’t had the chance to meet him yet, we would love to have you join us. Stop by every Friday at 3pm for snacks, beverages, laughter, love, and of course, plenty of Stanley pets. #bickfordseniorliving #happyhour #stanley #worksforcheese

There is something comforting about a quiet evening by the fire. In our Assisted Living community, these simple moments create the space for meaningful connection. Residents gather, share stories, enjoy easy conversation, and find common ground in the warmth of being together. Friendships form naturally here—over laughter, shared memories, and the comfort of familiar faces. It is often in these relaxed, unstructured moments that the strongest bonds are built. Because community is not just about where you live, but who you share it with. #bickfordseniorliving #fireplacechats #buildingcommunity #assistedlivingandmemorycare

We were honored to welcome the Encore Dancers as they joined us to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This talented group of ladies has been bringing joy to assisted living communities for years, sharing their love of dance and creating meaningful moments through performance. Their energy, dedication, and passion shine through in every step, reminding us all of the power of staying active and connected to what we love. For our residents, the performance was more than entertainment. It was a chance to reminisce, tap along to familiar rhythms, and be part of a shared celebration filled with laughter and community spirit. We are grateful to the Encore Dancers for spending part of their St. Patrick’s Day with us and for continuing to make a difference in the lives of so many. #encoredancers #stpatricksday #bickfordseniorliving

Moved my mom from another residence where communication was nil. Here at the Bickford, I am updated on physician visits, falls and overall wellbeing. Living 2 hours away, it eases my mind to have these updates!
