A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way
This morning didn’t start out the best for one of our residents. After her shower, she suddenly remembered she had missed her beauty shop appointment and became understandably upset.
Our Montessori Engagement Coordinator stepped right in to help. With a calm voice, a listening ear, and a whole lot of heart, she offered to do her hair herself. Before long, the frustration melted away and the two of them were chatting, laughing, and turning the morning around.
They even sat down together afterward to plan out which weeks she’d like her hair done so she can feel confident and prepared moving forward.
It’s the little moments of connection that make the biggest difference — and today was a perfect reminder of that.

Today at Bickford Rocky River, we gathered for our monthly non‑denominational service for our AL residents and Mary B, led by Chaplain Jill. She made this one extra special with a beautiful belated Easter service. One of our lovely AL ladies, Mimi, closed out the service with her usual grace, and afterward everyone enjoyed a sweet treat together. Moments like these truly brighten our community. #BickfordofRockyRiver #NonDemoninational #LoveandCare

Today at Bickford of Rocky River, we had such a fun time! Al led a game where we tried to come up with as many rhymes as possible, and the laughter carried us right into our visit with our friends from Friendship APL. They brought in two sweet dogs who made everyone’s afternoon. Afterward, a few of us enjoyed some fresh air outside on the patio to wind down the day. #BickfordRockyRiver #AssistedLiving #LoveandCare

Today at Mary B’s, we had a very busy day. One of our ladies helped pass out dessert during lunchtime, and after we finished eating, everyone went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. We started off playing balloon noodle until the wind carried our balloon away. That didn’t stop the fun — everyone kept laughing and enjoying time together with each other and the staff. While we were outside, we also took a moment to check on the progress of our garden. The ladies loved seeing how much everything has grown. When we came back inside, one of our ladies helped pass out the afternoon snack and some water. After that, we all relaxed until it was time to get ready for dinner. #BickfordRockyRiver #Montessori #WarmWeather #LoveandCare

My name is Christa Decker and I am the new Executive Director at Bickford of Rocky River. I wanted to tell you a little about myself, so that you can get to know me. I started working in a nursing home at the age of 18 years old as a caregiver. I knew then that taking care of the older adult population was where my passion was. At 23 years old (almost 30 years ago), I became a Registered Nurse. Started working night shift is a skilled nursing facility and supervising the community I was at. At 30 years old I became a Director of Nursing for an Assisted Living community. Throughout the years I worked at numerous skilled nursing and Assisted Living communities as a Director of Nursing. When the MyCare Medicaid program came out, I worked for CareSource as the Director of Care Management for MyCare. There I learned everything about the Medicaid Waiver program. I worked as a Regional Director for Home Care for several years. I have been an Executive Director for 6 years and I have the certification as Certified Executive of Assisted Living. I love my job. I love interacting with the residents and ensuring all their needs are met. I am a Resident Advocate. My husband’s name is Brandon. We have been married for 16 years in June. I have 3 children, Emily (30 years old), Michael (22 years old) and Cameron (14 years old). I have a dog named Lola. I have 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Reese. I love Cleveland sports! Baseball is my favorite. And I love to sing! My daughter is getting married in June. When you see me in the building stop and say hello.

There’s something truly special about welcoming a new resident, and we had the honor of meeting our beautiful 92-year-old Arlene who has already stolen our hearts

Today at Bickford of Rocky River, our Mary B’s residents took a virtual trip to three different zoos. It was National Zoo Lovers Day. As we explored each exhibit, the animals sparked conversations, memories of past zoo visits, and excitement about future outings. Many residents shared how much they would love to visit a zoo again once the weather warms up. It was a simple activity that brought joy, connection, and a renewed sense of curiosity. #BickfordRockyRiver #Montessori

Shopping Spree Fun! Today, the residents of Bickford of Rocky River AL enjoyed a lively shopping trip to Walmart. They were all smiles as they browsed the aisles, picked out their favorite goodies, and even kicked off their shoes once they got back on the bus to relax after all that excitement. After such a successful outing, they’re already buzzing with ideas about where they’d like to go for next month’s adventure. #BickfordRockyRiver #AssistedLiving #Shopping
