We honor the courage it takes for seniors and families to navigate the aging journey and we believe we owe you our vulnerability in return.
That’s why we display real reviews from our residents, both positive and negative. We’re not interested in cherry-picking feel-good comments from casual visits.
We aim to earn your trust by showing the full spectrum of feedback from internal monthly surveys of our residents and families. This is an uncommon practice in our industry.
Many of the reviews you’ll see are positive, serving as a testament to our “whatever it takes” commitment to helping residents live their best lives.
We interpret negative reviews through two lenses: First, some contain hard truths. It hurts to hear, but sometimes we deserve it. This feedback sharpens us, allows us to see where we fall short, and demands that we get better.
Second, some reviews arise from the unbearable emotional pain families feel as they watch a loved one decline. In these situations, our caregivers may bear the brunt of unrealistic expectations. As the saying goes, “Hurt people hurt people.”

Mom continues to receive good care and the staff is great.

Please take more care of my mom's arms when moving her. Her arms look terrible, she has very thin skin and that causes skin tears. Hospice got her arm sleeves to help protect her arms. It would be nice if my mom's room was vacuumed weekly as well as cleaning the bathroom weekly. My mom did get her done this past Friday because no one would help (name removed) get my mom in her wheelchair. Here is the text I received from (name removed) on Friday at 7:57 pm. Good evening (name removed), I’ve waited since after dinner for the aide’s to put (name removed) in a wheelchair so I could do her hair. It’s late and nothing yet. I’ll try again next Friday | I meant did not get her hair done.

This past month has been better. Thank you (name removed) for letting me know my mom's Food Network was working once again. I wrote my mom's name on her clothing in hopes item's don't go missing again. I appreciate all that (name removed) and (name removed) do for my mom. It's nice to see (name removed) is back as well.

It's now been 2 months since I mentioned my mom is unable to get the Food Network channel in her room. I was told you are working on it, but that was a week after I mentioned it & no follow up since. I am so appreciative of (name removed) and how she looks after my mom, as well as hospice!! About 2 weeks ago we came to see my mom (my dad visits daily) and she did not have any pants on!! That's unacceptable! Both laundry baskets were in her room, but there so many clothes missing. 3 pairs of pants & 2 tops! The one t-shirt was found & she had it on the other day. Her one blanket she used to cover herself while watching TV has never been found. It's been months since it went missing. We came in on a weekend about 2 weeks ago and they had my mom sitting in the recliner facing the wall, that is unacceptable. This happened both days that weekend. She is suppose to be in the large wheelchair provided by hospice. Plus the TV was on, but the doors to the armoire were closed. When (name removed) & hospice aren't there I worry about my mom after this past month. I must admit that my dad and I have said to each other that we are concerned about retribution towards my mom after speaking up. We both pray my mom will fine!!

Recently someone forgot to order his meds which should never happen he can't be with out his meds - also we have been there with NO workers around and had to find one in the office w door closed - seems to be all new faces there now and definitely havent felt warm feelings w the new employees- the regular employees are kind and welcoming the new employees didn't know we were walking down the hall w my dad and were talking very loudly about us until they saw us - just definitely isn't the place we were sold on when we visited that's for sure - (name removed) is probably the best thing they have going there

These ladies (name removed) do a great looking after my mom. Grateful for everything Hospice does for my mom, they are wonderful!! We brought in a 2nd laundry basket - not sure it's being used. Also brought in bags (ones like Kroger, etc) to be used and not sure they are being used in the wastebasket. For several days now, my mom has been unable to watch her cooking shows on the Food Network.....it always says weather issues. Doesn't matter if it's sunny or raining. Would you please check into that as that is my mom's favorite channel? Thank you!

I come from Ohio on Saturdays. Typically I don't see staff. One nice aid helped me in the front door. Another, (name removed)...I think, took Mom to the toilet while I was there. It's very expensive and the turnover of staff is dizzying. But my last visit was good.

Good to see carpets have finally been cleaned. Still have concerns why the Greenwood location can't keep Executive Director or an Activities Dictator in four years mom has been there.

Since bring up the cleanliness of my mom's room, it is being cleaned as well as the bathroom...thank you! Please keep my mom's window closed, she gets cold easily and is unable to close it herself. Grateful for (name removed) for the kindness they show my mom. And very appreciative of hospice ....(name removed)

Actually, we rate you a 4 for how the ladies treat my mom. They are so kind & gentle with her. Very grateful (name removed) is back from vacation! As far as how clean my mom's room is kept is a 3. The floor needs to be vacuumed at least weekly, as well as the bathroom needs to be cleaned at least week. Take out the dirty adult panties daily so the room does not smell. I bought in an air freshener to help.

- Most communities don’t solicit reviews on a monthly basis. Most surveys are annual and used for internal purposes only.
- They’re caring for a frail, vulnerable population 24/7/365. Healthcare, by its very nature, can be messy, especially when you’re on around the clock. Service failures are almost inevitable in this context.
- They know that some of the comments aren’t necessarily accurate
- They don’t have the courage to be vulnerable. They want to control how prospective families see them.
- They’re afraid it would hurt their sales and marketing efforts
- They don’t trust the consumer to be able to handle the truth

Reviews FAQ
Bickford residents and families have frequent opportunities to participate in providing feedback throughout the year. Bickford sends out a comprehensive annual survey evaluating all aspects of a residents experience. Following this survey, Bickford sends out a monthly survey to see if we are making progress on improving their happiness levels. The responses to both surveys are posted on the website and remain there for a year.
Bickford is committed to transparency. That means posting all feedback – both positive and negative. Every review is included in our overall score (star-rating). However, we do not post comments that are libelous, profane or risk violating the privacy of our residents.
A Bickford Verified Resident Review is a review provided by a resident or family member/significant other that has been verified by Bickford as an authorized individual. Individual names are protected for privacy reasons.
Bickford has developed a program to improve resident happiness based specifically on the scores and comments of the surveys. Each Branch sets goals to improve targeted areas identified from the surveys. The actions that need to be taken are discussed as a part of each shifts daily stand-up meeting.
