Geraldine—known to everyone as Gigi—had always been the kind of person who kept moving. Whether she was cooking, running errands, or helping others, she took pride in doing things on her own. Independence wasn’t just a habit for Gigi—it was part of who she was.
That’s why everything changed when she broke her foot.
What started as a sudden injury quickly turned into a daily struggle. Gigi couldn’t walk without assistance, couldn’t drive, and couldn’t manage basic tasks around her home. On top of that, arthritis in her hands made even the smallest activities—like gripping utensils or opening containers—painful and frustrating.
For the first time in her life, Gigi had to depend on others for nearly everything.
“It was hard,” she shared. “I wasn’t used to asking for help. I felt like I lost a part of myself.”
Her turning point came when she was introduced to FOX Rehabilitation.
From the beginning, Gigi’s therapy plan was built around her life—not just her injury. Her therapist understood that recovering from a broken foot was only part of the challenge. Managing her hand arthritis and helping her regain confidence in her daily routine were just as important.
Early sessions focused on the basics—safe movement, gentle weight-bearing, and rebuilding strength in her foot. At the same time, she worked through targeted exercises to improve flexibility and strength in her hands.
Progress didn’t happen overnight. There were moments of frustration and days when things felt harder than they should. But with consistent support and encouragement, Gigi kept going.
Little by little, things began to change.
She moved from relying completely on others to doing small tasks on her own. Then those small tasks turned into bigger ones. She began standing longer, walking farther, and using her hands with less pain and more confidence.
One day, she realized something remarkable—she had gone about her routine without needing help.
“I didn’t think I’d get back to this point,” Gigi said. “But I did.”
Today, Gigi is back to doing everything she loved before her injury. She walks independently, takes care of her home, and handles her daily activities with confidence. While she still manages her arthritis, it no longer defines her limits.
Her journey is more than a recovery story—it’s a reminder that with the right support, patience, and determination, independence can be rebuilt.
And for Gigi, that independence means everything. #Higher Path

Connecting with family over the phone, offering gentle cueing and support so voices could be heard and smiles could be felt. Garden Club was in full bloom with our new volunteer harmony as we planted seeds together nurturing not just plants, but purpose and patience. A beautiful piano session with BFM filled the room with joy. And at mealtime, meaningful social moments with BFM brought connection at the table. It’s the little moments that create the biggest impact. #MeaningfulMoments #PurposefulLiving #Bickfordseniorliving

Today was filled with connection, movement, and meaningful conversation Our Walking Club enjoyed time together staying active, every step bringing smiles and encouragement with music. During Bible Study, our moderator led us through scripture with heart and purpose, creating a space where faith, reflection, and shared experiences could shine. We also embraced the joy of storytelling through our visit and inspiration from the Johnson County Library, sparking conversations and connection especially through stories about our feline friends Moments like these remind us that community is built through movement, faith, and shared stories. #PurposefulLiving #WalkingClub #bickfordofgreenwood #FaithAndFellowship #WhateverItTakes

Resident council today getting insight for the month to come community rolls reading aloud, creating pearl passion ideas, and certain outings they would like. Also, rainy days can feel heavy, so we slowed things down before dinner with a gentle sensory pause. The lights were dimmed, soft music played in the background, and a projector cast flowing colors across the ceiling like northern lights dancing overhead. The room filled with quiet movement and calm, giving everyone a chance to rest their eyes, bodies, and minds. Outside, the rain continued. Inside, there was stillness, color, and a sense of ease. A simple way to transition the day bringing a little wonder and peace, even when the sky is gray. #bickfordofgreenwood #specialmoment

Today’s mall outing sparked some fun memories and many choices around the food court! As we walked around, stories started flowing especially about that time during the 1940s-2023 being a basketball coach when a red chair went flying by Bob knight! Moments like these remind us how powerful memories can be when shared together. Laughter, storytelling, and a simple walk turned into something truly special.
