Happy Montessori Monday! Recently, one of our most favorite resident-led Montessori-inspired activities has been Miss Leona's Style Show! One of our residents, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, was reminiscing on past community events she led, and she enthusiastically described a "Style Show" she once held! The residents loved the idea, and we promptly incorporated it into our activity schedule! Residents each signed up to represent a different month of the year, created their own costumes, then proudly strutted their stuff to kick off our Valentine's Day party! They were met with wild applause and no shortage of smiles! We love getting to bring these moments to life for our residents!

The River’s Reflects on Our Safe Return Home Over the past several days, our community at The River’s walked through a challenging and unexpected situation together. After a sudden mechanical failure required the temporary evacuation of our residents, what followed was nothing short of remarkable — a display of teamwork, compassion, and community spirit that reminded us exactly what it means to be part of Brentwood. Today, we are grateful and proud to share that all of our residents have safely returned home to The River’s. Their resilience, good humor, and trust in our team made every long day and late night worthwhile. Seeing everyone settle back into their familiar surroundings has brought immense joy and relief to our entire staff. A Seamless and Safe Transport Home Our return home was coordinated carefully and intentionally, ensuring residents were transported comfortably and reunited smoothly with family and familiar spaces. Thanks to the incredible coordination between our team and our partners, every resident arrived safely, warmly, and with the individualized support they needed. We recognize how much trust this required from our families, and we are deeply thankful for your patience, communication, and unwavering support. Family Update – The Rivers Yesterday, out of an abundance of caution, residents at The Rivers were safely evacuated to Grace Community Church, located directly across the street from our branch, after ice caused a tree to fall and impact our heating system. This close proximity allowed for a quick, smooth transition. Working closely with Brentwood Fire and Rescue, Williamson County Emergency Management Agency, Franklin Fire, and Williamson County EMS, our trained team carried out a well-coordinated evacuation plan. Residents remained safe, warm, and in good spirits, continuing to receive care from the same devoted staff they know and trust, with additional team members onsite for extra support, connection, and engagement. Meals, medications, oxygen support, and ongoing monitoring have continued without interruption, and families were kept informed throughout the process. Repairs are underway, and we will continue to share updates as we work toward a safe return home. We’re grateful for our community partners and for the trust families place in us during events like this.

This morning, I found Mrs. Julie outside on the front porch, carefully removing tags from her pillows. When I asked her what she was doing, she smiled and said, “Fresh air in the morning feels good, and our porch looks better with the tiniest touch.” That simple act speaks volumes about the power of independence and purpose in senior living. Montessori-inspired memory care encourages residents to engage in meaningful activities that connect them to their environment and sense of self. For Mrs. Julie, tending to her home—even in small ways—brings joy, dignity, and a feeling of belonging. It’s been a wonderful start to the new year, filled with so many fun and meaningful activities! Today, we celebrated the season with a cozy Winter Tea, complete with hot tea and scones. Other highlights have included painting the Northern Lights, enjoying trivia, creating personalized nametags for residents, and listening to stories read aloud by a volunteer and one of our Mary B’s Buddies from Assisted Living. We also enjoyed a special outing to see the Franklin Light Opera’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ. What a joyful way to begin the year!
