Today, our residents took a moment to remember, reflect, and give thanks. In honor of Patriot Day, our residents came together to create a special Basket of Gratitude for our local firefighters. Each card was made with love and a simple message of appreciation for the men and women who serve our community and are always willing to help others. We talked about courage, kindness, community, and the many ways people come together to care for one another. Our residents may have retired from their careers, but they haven't retired from making a difference. Kindness doesn't retire. Today, we remember. Today, we honor. Celebrating a Lifetime of Service We are so proud to celebrate one of our Bickford family members, Larry who was recently honored with the Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award from the Knights of Columbus. This special recognition is a beautiful reflection of the years he has spent serving others, sharing his faith, and making a difference in his community. We also see something special in Larry, a gift for faith, prayer, and bringing people together. As we talked about ways he could continue sharing those gifts here at Bickford, we thought, why not give him an opportunity to lead? We are excited to explore ways for him to help lead a Catholic prayer service, rosary, or time of faith and fellowship for our residents. Sometimes purpose doesn't end when our roles change, it simply takes on a new form. We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize his accomplishments, but even more grateful that he is part of our Bickford family and willing to continue sharing the gifts God has given him. One of our residents stepped into the leader’s seat and guided the conversation as neighbors shared ideas, dreams, and ways they’d like to make our home even better. From creating new committees to dreaming up activities they’d love to see, our residents were speaking up, making choices, and helping shape the life of their home. This is Montessori in action - purpose, choice, independence, leadership, and belonging. Tumble outta bed and stumble to the kitchen... In honor of Labor Day, we decided to have a little fun with one of the most iconic work songs of all time! Today, our residents showed us what their real jobs are around Bickford! From professional snack inspectors and bingo champions to coffee quality control and directors of napping, everyone has an important role to play! And of course, we couldn't celebrate Labor Day without a little love for the one and only Dolly. Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, and the joy you brought to generations. There is just something about the sights, sounds, and even the smells of the Nebraska State Fair that brings back so many memories! We took another group of our residents to enjoy a day at the fair, and I think some of our former farmers especially enjoyed seeing all the cattle and farm animals. Watching their faces light up and hearing them share stories from their farming days made the trip even more special. Sometimes an outing is more than just getting out and having fun... sometimes it takes you right back to a place filled with memories. A BLUE-RIBBON DAY AT THE NEBRASKA STATE FAIR! We took a little trip to the State Fair to see some very special entries, and we were so excited to spot artwork and creations from our own talented residents! The best part? Some of our residents even brought home ribbons! Celebrating Our Community Heroes! Today, we had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting for the new Fire Station #3, located right down the block from us! Being just down the block from us, these amazing firefighters are always there when our Bickford family needs them. Today, it was our turn to show up and support them as they celebrated their beautiful new home! Congratulations to Fire Station #3! A little curiosity, a lot of laughter, and plenty of fun made for a wonderful day out! We had such a fun day out in our community visiting our local EPIC children’s museum and enjoying all the hands on activities. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by yet, we definitely recommend it! The building itself also brought back some memories, as it is located in the old artillery building in town. Some of our residents even remembered the building from years ago and enjoyed sharing their memories. After all that fun, we topped off our outing with a refreshing treat from a local Barista’s coffee shop.
