One of the things we hear most from families is: “We wish we had started looking sooner. “
The truth is, assisted living decisions are often made during a stressful moment-after a fall, illness, or hospital stay. But planning ahead can make all the difference.
We all start with the same promise: I will take care of her myself. But health issues have a way of changing the rules. What started as simple plan of action , turns into a 24 seven vigilance. You’re no longer just a daughter or son; you’ve become a nurse, a security guard, chauffeur and a chef. . If you feel frustrated, exhausted, or even angry, you aren’t failing- you’re simply at the end of what one person can humanly do.
At Bickford Senior Living of Marshalltown, joining our waitlist, doesn’t mean you have to move right away. It simply gives your family options and peace of mind if the need of arises.
Sometimes the best gift we can give our loved ones is a plan.
If assisted living has crossed your mind for someone you love, we’d love to meet you!

One of today's activity was nail care. The lovely ladies sitting at the table......what a collection of happy, sweet, helpful and funny residents! While I did one resident's nails, the others sang along to the perfectly chosen music on Alexa. We have Residents helping other Residents and it is just the sweetest thing to watch. They were only folding napkins, but the kindness was unmeasured! #bickfordofmarshalltown #marshalltown #Montessori #residentshelpingresidents

Mondays Bickford bus ride was another success!! Today we went for a wonderful ride to Union Grove! Initially we were hoping to see the waterfall, however the very green over-growth of trees, shrubs and flowers has taken over! But we definitely did get to see the big beautiful lake and all the geese! Nothing but smiles and conversations the whole time! Here at Bickford of Marshalltown, we rock at participation! #bickfordofmarshalltown #marshalltown #bus ride #montessori

The new Montessori program at Bickford helps residents feel happier by focusing on what they can do, rather than what they have lost. It gives everyone a sense of purpose and success every day. How It Works Real Roles: Residents get meaningful, simple jobs like folding laundry or setting tables to feel needed. Life Stories: Activities match their old hobbies, like gardening or organizing, so the tasks feel familiar and comforting. Teamwork: Residents work together and cheer each other on, which builds strong friendships and cuts down on loneliness. Independence: The staff changes tasks to fit what each person can handle, letting them do things on their own without getting frustrated.
