A beautiful day, meaningful work, and a sense of purpose;
These ladies enjoyed a trip to Walmart to pick out tomato plants for our container gardens, and proudly helped plant them here at home! From choosing the perfect plant to getting their hands in the dirt, this experience was much more than gardening- it was a true Montessori moment.
Engaging in real, purposeful tasks that support independence, choice, contribution, and connection to daily life. Gardening encourages nurturing, responsibility, sensory engagement, teamwork, and pride in accomplishment. This is also a reflection of Bickford's Higher Path expectation, by helping our residents continue to live with purpose, dignity and joy. We cannot wait to watch these tomatoes grow right alongside the smiles that planted them!

Music has such a special way of bringing people together and lifting spirits, and today was no exception. We are so grateful to Chuck and his friend for sharing their time, and their talent of playing the accordion, with our residents. Thank you for creating a joyful afternoon, filled with music, smiles, and cherished memories!

On this last day of National Nurses Week, we're celebrating a very special nurse in our community! Long before becoming one of our beloved residents, Kay dedicated her career to caring for others while working in a local doctor's office. Her compassion, hard work, and servant heart made a difference in countless lives throughout the years. We are honored to now care for someone who spent so much of her life caring for others. Thank you, Kay, for your years of service, kindness, and commitment to helping your community. Your nursing spirit continues to shine bright each and every day!

We were honored to be invited by one of our resident’s sons, Mike Fansler, Professor of Bands at WIU, to a beautiful concert on campus—and what a touching experience it was! Our residents gathered their friends and were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived, complete with a red carpet escort to the doors. Moments like this are what being on the Higher Path at Bickford is all about—supporting our residents in staying healthy, happy, and strong so they can say “yes” to exciting experiences, time with loved ones, and making new memories. From the incredible music to the joy of being out together, it was a day that truly filled everyone’s cup. Thank you to Mike and WIU for making our residents feel so special!

Happy National Nurses Week 2026! Some places have staff… we have family. Sharon, Janet, Deb, Alisa, Tonia, Katey, and Chelsea — you are the heartbeat of this branch! The way you care for our residents (and each other) goes far beyond a job. It’s in the little things you do without being asked, the laughs you share down the hallway, and the way you somehow always know what someone needs before they even say it. You make proactive decisions like pros, but you love like daughters, sisters, and friends. And let’s be honest… you also deserve an award for juggling a hundred things at once while still managing to smile and keep everyone in line. Because of you, our residents aren’t just cared for — they’re known, valued, and truly at home. We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re so lucky you’re ours.

We are always so grateful for our very own Paul's nephew Troy and his wife Linda for blessing our community with their beautiful dulcimer music. The melodies always bring peace, comfort, and joy to our residents. These moments remind us of the power of music, how it connects us and nourishes are souls. Thank you for sharing your gifts and spreading such warmth and light within our home.
