Rolling, Creating & Reaching Higher!
A recent cooking class was more than just making something delicious-it was about being involved, trying something new, and having the opportunity to do it yourself.
Mary Evelyn proudly joined in, rolling out the dough and putting her hands to work! Moments like these are exactly what the Bickford Higher Path is all about: seeing the person first, encouraging independence, and creating opportunities for residents to continue to grow and participate.
The Bickford Higher Path approach brought the team together to help Mary Evelyn rediscover confidence, engagement, and meaningful.
Higher Path discussions and "Getting to Know You" tools helped the team identify person-centeted ways to re-engage Mary Evelyn.
Gentle encouragement from our Montessori Engagement Coordinator helped Mary Evelyn begin attending daily exercises and restoring her faith in her own abilities.
A Montessori based approach uncovered Mary Evelyn's long history of playing and teaching piano, and the yearning to use her hands again in a meaningful way.
At Bickford, we believe abilities may change, but the desire to contribute, create, and be part of something meaningful never goes away.

A huge thank you to Greg from Home Instead for a magical afternoon at Bickford! He had our residents laughing, smiling and completely WOWED with an incredible magic show. He drew a fantastic crowd, and our residents are still talking about it! We’re so grateful for community partners like Home Instead who bring fun, connection and memorable moments to our residents. And fun fact—Greg was formerly a Las Vegas entertainer! If you’re looking for in-home senior care in the Macomb area, Home Instead is available to help!

Our residents enjoyed a delicious Banana Split Social in celebration of National Banana Split Day! With plenty of ice cream and tasty toppings, there were lots of smiles, laughter, and sweet memories shared along the way. Nothing beats a little ice cream and good company!

Earlier this month we celebrated a very special birthday with a surprise party for an incredible 103-year-old birthday girl. 103 years of memories, stories, laughter, and love is certainly something worth celebrating! We were so happy to make her day extra special!

A big thank you to Cohen for spending time with our residents! We loved seeing him sitting at the table, coloring and sharing smiles with our residents. It's the simple moments of connection that can mean so much. We appreciate you choosing to give your time and brighten the day!
