Residents and staff embraced the occasion with classic Derby hats, creating a lively and elegant atmosphere. A special highlight of the day was the involvement of resident family members Renee and Kris, who added a personal touch by bringing delicious cupcakes and cucumber sandwiches for everyone to enjoy. Their thoughtful contribution made the celebration even more memorable. As everyone gathered to watch the race and cheer on their favorite horses, the room was filled with excitement, laughter, and connection—capturing the true spirit of Derby Day.

There’s something special about a beautiful spring day!! Today we took our residents out to enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and all the bright, beautiful changes happening in the trees and plants at Crapo. Everywhere we looked, there were signs of new life and all the good, earthly things that make this season so uplifting. We even spent some time overlooking the mighty Mississippi—such a peaceful and powerful sight that never gets old. One moment that really touched our hearts: one of our residents has “her” special tree near the band shelter. For years it’s been protected by a fence, and today we noticed something new… the fence is gone. Her tree is free, standing tall and strong—just like her. Days like this remind us how important it is to get outside, breathe deeply, and appreciate the beauty all around us. #weeklytrips #bickfordofburlington #springairandsunshine
