This morning, we loaded up the bus with our wonderful residents and set off on a joy-filled ride through Rodeo Park and the sweet town of Denmark! Even though the skies were cloudy, our smiles were shining bright! Rodeo Park surprised us with quite a few trees down from last night’s storm—something different to see, and a reminder of how nature likes to shake things up! But nothing could dampen our spirits! From the winding roads to the small-town charm, we had a bus full of laughter, good company, and happy hearts. We Hit the Rocky Road—and Loved Every Bite! Yesterday afternoon, we celebrated National Rocky Road Day the yummiest way possible—with gooey, chocolatey rocky road brownies! Our residents enjoyed the sweet treats while we dished out a little fun food history too! Did you know the rocky road dessert got its start in Australia in 1853? It was originally made to use up candy that had melted or spoiled during long sea voyages (talk about turning lemons into lemonade... or chocolate into magic!) Fast forward to 1929 in Oakland, California, and a guy named William Dreyer mixed marshmallows and nuts into chocolate ice cream—and boom! Rocky road ice cream was born! Honoring Memorial Day at Bickford of Burlington This morning, we gathered with our residents to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day. We began the day with a heartfelt flag-raising ceremony, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and sang the National Anthem together. Later, we took a special bus ride to visit the Veterans Memorial Wall. It was a beautiful moment of reflection and pride—especially for a few of our residents whose husbands’ names are honored on that wall. Seeing their joy and gratitude reminded us just how meaningful this day truly is.
