Bickford of Sioux City

Your loved one deserves to live the best life possible

Watch your loved one thrive in an environment that feels like home

Navigating the aging journey is difficult.

We understand what’s at stake here: it’s not just someone, it’s your loved one.

Meanwhile, it’s on you to make the difficult decisions.

There's a Higher Path for our seniors

Senior care today is reactive, expensive, and siloed. It’s a sick-care system, not a health-care system (designed to keep seniors healthy). Most of us have accepted this status quo because it feels too big and complex to change. Not us. We’re taking the road less traveled and championing a higher standard of senior care.

Secondary providers within the Higher Path Senior Health Model, are key to overall resident well-being, including the spiritual aspect of their lives. Bickford contracts with Marketplace Chaplains to provide services, including weekly worship service and Bible study. These Chaplains may also visit with residents individually if they are interested, at no cost. They say that friendship rooted in prayer weathers every storm. These two ladies are great examples of this as they join hands in prayer before every meal.

Today Mike Beavers brought his carrier pigeons to Bickford. We tied messaged to them and then released them into the air.The pigeons will carry the messages back to Mike's farm! Mike will return to Bickford with the messages we had attached! This was educational and fun! Thank you Mike!

We had a full house as we celebrated on family night! We enjoyed a picnic supper followed by a patriotic sing a long. Family time is so important and joyful when we gather together! Happy 4th of July to everyone!

The Power of Activities in Assisted Living Activity programming in assisted living isn't just fun-its essential. Engaging in games, music, exercise and creative projects helps residents stay social, active and mentally sharp. These programs reduce loneliness, boost mood and create a sense of purpose. Whether it's a morning stretch or a themed social event, meaningful activities help residents feel connected and truly at home.

When dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia we find ourselves asking, "Why do Meaningful Activities Matter?". Our day to day lives are the secret ingredients we need to understand who we are as individuals. They are essential when we, as caregivers, want to preserve our resident’s existing skills and independence. We want to promote a sense of accomplishment, self-worth, routine, emotional well-being and create opportunities for connection. These all contribute to your loved one’s overall happiness, dignity and health. These include providing spiritual, active, expressive, social and engaging moments every day. Capturing the memories, supporting, loving and caring for your loved ones is why we exist. We are a family of caregivers who are willing to do whatever it takes to make our residents and families feel secure, loved and supported. #BFMs #WhateverItTakes #HigherPath

We have “the coolest cats on the block”! Our days are filled with fun, laughter and adventures. This weeks social did not disappoint as we combined sunglasses and ice cream. I think we can agree the resident’s thoroughly enjoyed themselves! #ThoseExpressions #NationalSunglassesDay

When Mr. Sellman first came to live with us, his story was one of quiet hardship. Living alone on five acres of rural land, he had been fiercely independent—until a medical emergency changed everything. After a prolonged hospital stay due to encephalopathy caused by heavy alcohol use, Mr. Sellman was found on the floor at home, unable to get up, after a fall that left him alone for hours, possibly even days. Upon admission to our community, Mr. Sellman was facing significant challenges. He was unable to walk, used a wheelchair, and scored only 5 out of 30 on his Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), indicating severe cognitive impairment. He was confused, withdrawn, and deeply fatigued—physically and mentally. But with the support of our compassionate team, a structured routine, and a safe, welcoming environment, Mr. Sellman began to find his way back to himself. In just 30 days, Mr. Sellman made remarkable progress. His MMSE score improved to 21/30, a significant gain that reflects clearer thinking, better memory, and renewed engagement with life. With the help of therapy and daily encouragement, he began walking again with the assistance of a walker, something that once seemed out of reach. His confusion continues to improve with each passing day, and we are witnessing not just a recovery, but a transformation. Today, Mr. Sellman is more alert, more active, and more connected to the world around him. He’s no longer alone, he’s part of a community that sees his strength, supports his goals, and celebrates his journey. This is what Higher Path means to us: walking beside our residents as they rediscover health, purpose, and hope.
