Bickford of Greenwood

Your loved one deserves to live the best life possible

Watch your loved one thrive in an environment that feels like home

Navigating the aging journey is difficult.

We understand what’s at stake here: it’s not just someone, it’s your loved one.

Meanwhile, it’s on you to make the difficult decisions.

There's a Higher Path for our seniors

Senior care today is reactive, expensive, and siloed. It’s a sick-care system, not a health-care system (designed to keep seniors healthy). Most of us have accepted this status quo because it feels too big and complex to change. Not us. We’re taking the road less traveled and championing a higher standard of senior care.

Geraldine—known to everyone as Gigi—had always been the kind of person who kept moving. Whether she was cooking, running errands, or helping others, she took pride in doing things on her own. Independence wasn’t just a habit for Gigi—it was part of who she was. That’s why everything changed when she broke her foot. What started as a sudden injury quickly turned into a daily struggle. Gigi couldn’t walk without assistance, couldn’t drive, and couldn’t manage basic tasks around her home. On top of that, arthritis in her hands made even the smallest activities—like gripping utensils or opening containers—painful and frustrating. For the first time in her life, Gigi had to depend on others for nearly everything. “It was hard,” she shared. “I wasn’t used to asking for help. I felt like I lost a part of myself.” Her turning point came when she was introduced to FOX Rehabilitation. From the beginning, Gigi’s therapy plan was built around her life—not just her injury. Her therapist understood that recovering from a broken foot was only part of the challenge. Managing her hand arthritis and helping her regain confidence in her daily routine were just as important. Early sessions focused on the basics—safe movement, gentle weight-bearing, and rebuilding strength in her foot. At the same time, she worked through targeted exercises to improve flexibility and strength in her hands. Progress didn’t happen overnight. There were moments of frustration and days when things felt harder than they should. But with consistent support and encouragement, Gigi kept going. Little by little, things began to change. She moved from relying completely on others to doing small tasks on her own. Then those small tasks turned into bigger ones. She began standing longer, walking farther, and using her hands with less pain and more confidence. One day, she realized something remarkable—she had gone about her routine without needing help. “I didn’t think I’d get back to this point,” Gigi said. “But I did.” Today, Gigi is back to doing everything she loved before her injury. She walks independently, takes care of her home, and handles her daily activities with confidence. While she still manages her arthritis, it no longer defines her limits. Her journey is more than a recovery story—it’s a reminder that with the right support, patience, and determination, independence can be rebuilt. And for Gigi, that independence means everything. #Higher Path

Today’s mall outing sparked some fun memories and many choices around the food court! As we walked around, stories started flowing especially about that time during the 1940s-2023 being a basketball coach when a red chair went flying by Bob knight! Moments like these remind us how powerful memories can be when shared together. Laughter, storytelling, and a simple walk turned into something truly special.

Higher Path: When Residents Become the Support System In many traditional support programs, help flows in one direction—from staff to participant. But in a “Higher Path” model, something more powerful happens: residents begin helping each other. What starts as a structured environment gradually evolves into a living, breathing community built on shared responsibility, empathy, and growth. At its core, the Higher Path philosophy recognizes that people who are walking similar journeys often understand each other in ways no textbook or training can replicate. Whether individuals are rebuilding after hardship, navigating recovery, or simply striving for a better future, there is a unique strength in shared experience. Residents aren’t just participants—they become mentors, accountability partners, and role models for one another. This peer-driven approach creates a ripple effect. A resident who has learned to manage daily challenges can guide someone newer through the same struggles. Small acts—checking in, offering encouragement, or holding someone accountable—build trust and reinforce positive habits. Over time, the community itself becomes the support system. Another key element is ownership. When residents play an active role in each other’s progress, they also take greater responsibility for their own. The environment shifts from “I’m here to receive help” to “I’m here to grow and help others grow.” That mindset fosters confidence, leadership, and a sense of purpose that extends beyond the program. Of course, this model doesn’t eliminate the need for structure or professional guidance. Instead, it enhances it. Staff can focus on providing direction and resources, while residents sustain the day-to-day culture of encouragement and accountability. The result is a balanced ecosystem where support comes from all sides. The impact of residents helping residents goes deeper than immediate outcomes. It builds lasting skills—communication, empathy, leadership—that carry into life beyond the program. More importantly, it reminds individuals that they are not alone, and that their experiences, no matter how difficult, can become a source of strength for someone else. Higher Path isn’t just a program model. It’s a mindset: that healing, growth, and transformation are strongest when they’re shared. # higher path
