Good music has a way of creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere! We had some dancers to add pizzaz to the event. The Hanks Martin Band had us feeling good, singing along to Rock ’n’ Roll and Praise for a full hour of joy and energy. What a fantastic performance! Crafting Time: Wooden frames and Jewelry Edition Residents enjoyed choosing their supplies for their crafts. Every art creation is an expression of our crafters’ individuality! As the residents sat together at the craft table, conversations evolved and ideas developed for the ideal project. It was amazing to see how wooden picture frames became beautiful with stickers that were chosen by our seniors. They browsed through the sticker booklets to find the stickers that simply caught their attention. At another table, people were making beaded jewelry and even resin jewelry. Bickford Birthday Club: Cards & Signs with Purpose Our Birthday Club is one of our newest resident-led committees of 2026. Members are responsible for creating meaningful ways to bring joy to one another. Each month, the group gathers to design personalized birthday door signs and prepare thoughtful cards for residents being celebrated. These small but intentional touches ensure every resident feels seen, valued, and truly special on their birthday. We look forward to next month’s birthday party! At Bickford of Chesapeake Assisted Living, today’s exercise class came full circle thanks to Coach Ken. A lifelong lover of fitness and a former high school sports coach, Ken attends every exercise class—and often helps lead them. After class, our Montessori Engagement Coordinator, Sherlisa, invited Ken to assist with cleaning the exercise noodles, an important step he knows well from years of caring for his team’s equipment. This meaningful role reflects Montessori principles in action: honoring lifelong skills, promoting purpose, and engaging residents in real, relevant tasks. By connecting past experience to present activity, residents gain confidence, a sense of contribution, and deeper engagement—proving that purpose doesn’t retire, it evolves.
